Fire Safety -- Make it your Business to Know

If you discover a fire:

Ø                  Leave the area immediately, go to a neighbour and call 9-1-1

Ø                  Activate the nearest fire alarm pull station on the fire floor.

Ø                  Once you are outside, NEVER go back in.

Ø                  Close all doors behind you but leave them unlocked or take the keys with you

Ø                  Give keys to the Fire Ground Commander or Incident Commander (Fire Department Officer-in-Charge of the fire)

Ø                  Go to the nearest exit and leave the building.

Ø                  If you encounter smoke, consider taking an alternate stairwell/exit or a window

Ø                  Heat and smoke rise leaving cleaner, breathable, air near the floor.

Ø                  Crawl low under smoke.

Ø                  Call the Weyburn Fire Department at 9-1-1 regardless of the size of the fire.

Ø                  Never assume this has been done.

Ø                  Never assume the Weyburn Fire Department will automatically know your building is in alarm.

Ø                  Give correct address, location of the fire AND your name.

v                It is important to correctly specify "Avenue", "Street", Etc. Streets normally run North & South and Avenues normally run East & West. The use of directional indicators such as “SE” is also extremely important in some cases.  Give the correct address of the fire.

IN CASE OF FIRE OR EMERGENCY CALL 9-1-1
